Importance Of Effective Communication

Effective communication will help you to better understand a person or any situation and will enable you to resolve differences, and build trust / respect with your prospects and customers.  As simple as effective communication seems, much of what we try to communicate to others is misinterpreted by the people who receive the message. I came across a great example of bad communication recently when a woman on Facebook posted a new photo of herself and received a reply that her photo showed tons of wrinkles and she should really try product X which she was selling. Do you think this was interpreted as helpful … hell no … is she likely to convert her conversation into a sale …  again hell no.

When communication is effective in the workplace it tends to encourage better performance and increased job satisfaction. Effective communication helps people in a working environment understand their jobs better and feel more involved in them. It is through effective communication that a leader gets work done by others. Therefore, a successful leader must know the art of communication. Moreover, communication is a means whereby the employee can be properly motivated.  Miscommunication can cause conflict and frustration in both personal and professional relationships. By learning these effective communication skills, you can better connect with your partner, kids, friends, and your team.

  1. Listening is one of the most important aspects of effective communication, by developing successful listening skills you are not just understanding the words or the information being communicated, but you are also able to understand how the recipient feels about what they’re communicating.
  2. When we communicate the vast majority of the message is not in the words we use. Your facial expressions, body movement and gestures, eye contact, posture, even the tone of your voice, will say more about how you than words alone ever can.
  3. Communication skills are not limited to direct interaction with other people and the spoken word. The ability to write clearly and effectively is not limited to journalists or professional authors. Poor written communication can be frustrating for the reader and potentially damaging, would you buy a product from a website peppered with spelling mistakes?
