Changes to immigration law impacts employers

Thousands of business owners or managers throughout the UK who employ illegal workers could find themselves facing a £10,000 fine or even a spell in jail following changes to the law that come into force on February 29, 2008.
Pleading ignorance is no excuse! Employers are expected to prove that they have checked the immigration status of all of their employees and provide evidence of this with copies of the documents and a clear paper trail. What is more, if an employee has a temporary work visa, the employer is expected to check the paperwork at least once a year.
